A Faustian Bargain

With the release of Final Fantasy XII just days away, i desperate need of a Playstation 2. Since I was not interested in buying a new PS2 with PS3 and Wii just days away I decided it would be best to barter for one.  After asking around I did find a friend who had an extra PS2.

I won’t get into the subtleties of the negotiations, but I ended up trading a new-in-box 60GB 2.5″ Maxtor external hard drive for a Playstation 2, memory card, and controller. I was pretty impressed with myself, since I had gotten the Maxtor product for free, until I found out the Playstation had video cable… or power cable… and sometimes it has disk read errors.

Yesterday I was able to purchase the two cables at EB Games for about $16, so that problem was avoided, though the power supply cable is a “universal” one that barely fit in to the back of the Playstation. Soon after I found out that the PS2 uses the same cables at the PS, so I definitely could have found some free cables in my travels. Anyway, the system powered up, so we’ll see how it works on Tuesday morning when it is time to play FFXII.
