FFXII Hours Away

Tomorrow morning at 7am my local EB Games will be opening their doors. Why so early? Final Fantasy XII is coming out!

I have been eagerly awaiting this game since I beat FF X about five years ago. I scored a PS2 (see previous post) and will be putting my life on hold for a few days (weeks maybe) and playing the game as much as I can. This will definitely have a negative impact on how much work I get done and and how much West Wing Season 2 I watch (not that this is particularly productive).

At Digital Life I had the chance to play FFXII for about 20 minutes and it was definitely different than what I expected, but what I expected. I am still excited though- it looked like a great time and IGN just had a glowing review of the game.

From IGN:
Final Fantasy XII is a fantastic RPG. It blows all of its PS2 competition this year right out of the water and is among the all time elite role-players ever made for the system. Kingdom Hearts, Devil Summoner, Xenosaga III, Tales of the Abyss… none of them are on the same level as Square Enix’s bold and riveting move in a new direction. Whether you’re a fan of the genre or not, FF12 most certainly deserves a special spot on your PS2 game shelf… put it in the front.

OK, I got about 90 minutes of play time before I had to start to do some work this morning. Quick synopsis- the graphics are incredible, by far the best I had seen on PS2, the storyline is very interesting, but the game starts off slowly. I have only had a few battles at this point, including getting absolutely destroyed by a t-rex, but the attack system seems to work well… this is something I will not be able to really see until I level up a bit more. BTW- the characters are sooo cool. They look great and have interesting storylines.
