300

Graphics novels are something that I don’t read very often, but when I do I really enjoy them. This is probably because I only read the most famous and highly acclaimed ones, but that is aside from the point. I really like the Age of Bronze series, though with it, as with the others I read, I really crave more content than pictures and a few words can put forth.

I just finished reading Frank Miller’s 300, an amazing graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae. In this conflict 300 Spartans (with some help) fought held back a tremendous army of Persians in an ill-faited though heroic defense of their homeland. The book has very little dialogue, but has amazing art in huge 12.5″ X 10″ pages.

I have to admit, I only heard about the book after seeing the movie trailer. The trailer is amazing, but seeing it through the first time I did not really get a lot of what was going on. I just saw swords and violence, combined with amazing lighting/cinematography and rock music and I was interested. Watching the trailer after reading the book has gotten me super excited for the movie to come out, though it looks like we will have to wait for March for that.
