No Wii For Me…

… at least not yet. I did not by a put any money down on a unit because I was not interested in waiting on line, spending a bunch of money, or paying the full retail price. What’s funny is that so far I am glad I did not buy one.
Over the past half year or so I have been getting increasing excited for the Wii to arrive. This finally seemed like the system I was waiting for, a return to the glory days for Nintendo. I was totally gung-ho to get one as early as possible and with the price at just $249 this could easily happen. But over the past month a few things have happened. First of all, I played it. Second of all, the reviews have been extremely mixed. Third, I am betting there will be a price drop before Xmas. Anyway I am not so sure I want the Wii any more and I am going to wait it out, until a friend gets one and I can use his for a bit.
If you are still undecided, here are two pretty good articles from Slate, one who loves it and the other was not nearly as happy. They are not very technical and don’t represent the same type of game journalism I normally take into consideration, but they are worth reading.
