Today there were a number of very troubling posts concerning Google’s Gmail webmail service. Both TechCrunch and Gigaom reported how a number of Gmail accounts have been deleted with no hope of restoration. As a Gmail fan and someone who relies on it for personal email this is more than a bit troubling.

This story kept growing yesterday and all sorts of interesting facts and opinions are coming out of the woodwork. The most interesting post I read was by Marshall Kirkpatrick who tells us that Microsoft asked for the laptop back now the the situation has become a PR nightmare. From the post:

This story broke recently and it really blew up fast. It seems that Microsoft, through its marketing dept., has been giving free no-strings-attached notebooks to a few bloggers.
