A look at Web Operating Systems

Slashdot has a link to a article that takes a quick look at ten Web operating systems. The blog, Frantic Industries, is not one I have been to before but they did a nice job of quickly going over the 10 OSs. They author is not that big of a fan of the use of Flash for this application, a point that I agree with him on, but he seems to be fair about his assessment of each of the sites.
Of the ten I have used a few, most notably Goowy, YouOS, and EyeOS. I would definitely recommend people take a look at Goowy, it is a pretty cool platform that is gaining a solid following and seems to be getting a fair amount of attention from the Web 2.0 crowd and has a good set of developers behind it. I am not sure what the future for any of these is, especially once Google comes out with something, but the Web OS is a great idea and it is something that will eventually replace our stand-alone web services like web mail, RSS, file storage, etc.

Velly interesting. Haven’t checked Web operating systems out at all yet, but will do so asap. Definitely something important to know about! thanks for pointing it out!
