Scoble Interviews John Edwards

It looks like Robert Scoble’s first interview with John Edwards was posted over at Podtech today.
These interviews have gotten a lot of coverage in the blogosphere, but this first one seems pretty impromptu- the audio and video quality are not great and there is a lot of background noise (it was shot on a plane). Scoble is articulate and asks some interesting introductory type questions as the two get a feel for one another, not that we expected any tough policy questions yet. Edwards does not reveal anything of note, but we find out that he is a really slow typist, which is not particularly impressive or interesting, and that he will keep on blogging when if he becomes president, so long as it’s OK with the Secret Service.
The questions are not especially riveting, but it is nice to run through all the basics- who are you, why are you running, where does your belief in blogs comes from, and so on. Edwards is able to keep the buzzwords to a minimum and stay pretty relaxed which is refreshing.
There is also a short audio section that is put there because the battery on Scoble’s camera died (right as he talks about technology). At the end, just before the audio is cut Edwards tells Scoble he did a good job, and he [Edwards] seems like a genuinely nice guy…
This all seems a bit gimmicky at this point and I am still not sure why Scoble was chosen to do the job- he is clearly capable, but why not a political blogger? It might have something to do with Scoble being seen as politically neutral but it will be interesting to see if he can actually get anything interesting out of Edwards in the future, something that the MSM could not. Anyway, I would watch another one, though hopefully part 2 won’t be on a plane.

He met with about 20 bloggers over two days. I got two such meetings on tape. Should have them up in the next day or two.
I think I was chosen because I was an outsider and would report what I saw from a different lens than someone who writes for, say, Daily Kos.
What would you have asked if you were on the plane?
John Edwards knows a lot about poverty, after all, he’s helped throw a lot of people into it with:
- his co-sponsorship of H-1b visas,
- his support for illegal aliens,
- his vote for MFN-China
but what about stuff like iraq war and the patriot act?
well, he voted for them too
About the only thing you can say for Edwards is, he spent so much time running for president that he didnt have time to do more damage as senator
You’ve got to ask yourself – ‘what did he do, with the power he had, when he had it?
Would you pay to be part of the Democractic process…
Many of you who live in the United States are probably thinking. I already do pay to be part of the Democratic process. This is part of the reason I pay my yearly taxes. What I am asking is – would you be willing to pay to report on the Democratic proc…
