Too Busy to Write Much

I am packing/preparing for CES so I don’t have time to write too much but I did want to post anyway. I am leaving form Neward tomorrow about 7am so I should be in Vegas starting trouble by about 10am local time. I am going to have to drop my bags and all that but I expect to make it to a few press conferences and then Digital Experience (the event the really kicks everything off) at 6pm.
In the meantime…
Jason Calacanis has a great post on his blog about Digg possibly “dying the death of a thousand cuts” or basically being torn apart by their inability to branch out from their base group and being presented with competition from other social news sites, Reddit, Newsvine, Rojo, etc. The interesting part is that Digg can be a success but in still, in a sense, be a bust because people have a lot of money invested and are expecting a big payday in the future, Calacanis estimates something to the tune of 10x-20x their input. There are some good comments, including one from everyone’s favorite VC blogger.
Scoble’s at CES already. I am kinda thinking I should have gotten there today, but I don’t know how much Vegasd I can take. The Gizmodo/Engadget people really do a kick ass job of real-time coverage so this will not be a focus of mine this year, and while I hate to miss out on the breaking news traffic, you have to admit when you are beat and fall back to your strengths. I had a pretty nice day in NYC though, mostly sunny, high 60s, wow.
I stumbled on to Spotback today, it’s a pretty cool social news site, somewhat like Techmeme, but instead you pick the topics and then you rate stories- if you like one they give you a related story for more reading. Super cool idea, and while the layout can’t touch Techmeme, I will be investigating it further.
