Scoble’s Implosion: Play by Play

OK, explosion is a bit of a stretch, but it has been an interesting situation. Let’s give it a quick run through:

  1. Scoble posts on how no big blogs link out.
  2. The post gets a lot of attention and angers/offends a number of people. Many of those not affected comment.
  3. Scoble posts again. It’s not an apology, but he seemed to have calmed down a bit. The issue gets more attention (and 193 comments as of this posting).
  4. Valleywag sees an interesting reponse by Scoble in his answer to comment in his last post (see #3). Apparently Intel “Intel paid us a fee for the ‘professional’ video”. Valleywag calls Scoble a “schill”. Scoble notices.
  5. Scoble responds to the name calling. Scoble clarifies- he was not paid by Intel, Podtech (his employeer was) and “PodTech paid for all my expenses to Intel, including my flight, hotel, and meals”. Currently there are 43 comments including an interesting conversation with an anonymous poster who goes by the handle “Goebbels”.
  6. Somewhere (probably between 3 and 5) a ZDnet blog questioned Scoble about his relationship with Intel. Things are a little bit clearer. edit: Most people did not find out about this until seeing it on Scoble’s blog (see #5)
  7. Valleywag is unrelenting. They post again knocking the size of Podtech’s audience as well as some more personal remarks about Scoble. Namely he “has to pump revenues by producing lightly-disguised corporate videos and taking money from sources. And that Scoble, Podtech’s link-hungry video star, is under such stress.” The last sentence points out that the original post (see #1) from Scoble was just him complaining about not getting as much links/traffic as he would like, not commenting on a larger problem in the blogosphere as it otherwise might seem.
  8. The story pics up more steam, nears the top of Techmeme.
  9. Valleyway keeps the posts coming. They are increasingly uninteresting.

That’s it for now. Stay tuned for more…

Edit: There’s more:

10. Scoble posts, people were right to be mad. It’s gotta be over, right?

Edit 2: Wow, one last hurray.

11. Jason Calacanis posts an open letter to his friend (who he has really had it with).  Somewhat overly dramatic with a few too many of these”?!”. Check out the comments, Maryam Scoble joins in.
