Asus U1 Update
2:59 pm March 27th, 2007 by Sal Cangeloso

Since I last posted about Asus’ upcoming U1 ultraportable I have been dying to get some more news about it. Despite a number of stories talking about a March release there has not been much US press the product, but a lot of people are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
The best sources of information so far are:
- Cnet UK review … “The keyboard itself is covered in glitter” “3D gaming performance is a joke” “failed to run our PCMark 2005 and MobileMark battery tests”… 8.3/10
- PCpro UK review … “the Dell Latitude D420 is faster and has a larger screen” “comes very close to tripping up the Sony VAIO VGN-TX3X“
- MSN Tech UK review
- Engadget gallery
- * Trusted Reviews
Techpowerup has a post straight from Cebit 2007 where they are reporting as seeing a U1F in pink, but they labeled the processor as a Core 2 Duo U2400 (it’s a Core Duo) so there may have been some miscommunicatin there. They still have a lot of great pictures so it is worth stopping by.
When searching for information make sure to search for the U1F as well. I am not sure why there is a distinction, it probably called something different in each market.
On their site Asus has a few facts, but nothing we did not already know. In addition to the LED-backlit display the highlights include:
-Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Technology
- Intel Core Duo Processor U2400
- Mobile Intel945GM Express Chipset

- 11.1″ WXGA LED backlight with Color Shine
- ASUS Video Intelligence Technology
- 40/60/80 GB HDD
- External Blu-Ray/DVD Super Multi DL/Combo(optional)
- Built-in 0.3 mega-pixel webcam
- Fingerprint scanner & TPM (Trusted Platform Module)
- 10/100/1000, 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth V2.0+EDR+A2DP
- 4x USB 2.0, 1x IEEE 1394, 1x VGA, 1x New Card, 1x 5V DC-out, 1x USB Portbar (optional)

Stay tuned for more news. I am waiting to hear back from Asus about the product availability…
