I have been following the Computex coverage as closely as possible, but I now realize that I really should have make the trip. The plane ticket was going to be really expensive, but it would probably have been cheap once I got there and it would have been really productive as far as checking out the new gear and getting a head start on scouting new products.

I have been the most interested in VIA’s offerings so far, but Asus seems to have a lot going on as well. I’ve been reading as much as I can about the show, but no matter how much I take in, it’s not really the same as being there, shaking hands, handing out business cards, etc. Even when you work on the internet, talking about computers, it makes a major difference to be there in person.

So far the real highlights for me have been VIA mobile-ITX and Asus’ Eee notebook. Both have serious potential though will probably have little impact on most US consumers.

It’s interesting to see that coverage from the major blogs/sites is really limited and enthusiast sites, like Hot Hardware, are doing all the real coverage. Computex definitely doesn’t have the broad appeal of something like CES, and was not able to pull in the big names like last week’s D, but it’s still shaping up to be a really great show, at least if you are interested in computers…
