Non-tech Gear: Rowing Machine

I have been really wanting to pick up a rowing machine for a few months now. Indoor rowing is one of my preferred forms of exercise so I’d love to have a rowing machine in my home- this would not only be convenient, but the one in my gym is a piece of junk.

From what I can tell, pretty much everyone goes with a Concept2 and since it’s the only brand I have any experience with I will probably do the same when I go for it. Right now I am thinking about the D model with the cheaper computer (I don’t need a lot of features).

Right now the plan is to get my living situation settled and then to find a used one, but it’s pretty slow going. Aside from the moving thing, they are really hard to find used, which surprises me. I would have thought a lot of people would buy these and never use them (hopefully not me) and are looking to get rid of them, but I can’t find very much in the NYC/NJ area. These things are actually pretty expensive- about $800-1000 for what I am looking at, so hopefully I can find one used for less.

If anyone has any experience with rowing machines I’d love to hear some thoughts.

rowing machines can offer a GREAT workout but can be a bit boring. i recommend lining up a good list of songs on the ipod before you get going.
