Why Not to Start Your Own Search Engine

This is a really interesting article about the basics of creating and running a search engine. It is not very technical, but it is fascinating to look into how complex these things are and how much we take for granted when using them.
The article goes point by point over some of the decisions you will need to face, from choosing your facilities to your storage and indexing. Very cool stuff, but light enough to stop the reader from getting bogged down in the tech talk.
